Since its inception Caol Ruadh has displayed works by more than a hundred different artists. Each artist showcases their unique perspective, creating a tapestry of creativity that reflects individual journeys. The deep friendship between the artists and founder Karen Scotland fosters an environment of collaboration and inspiration, where ideas flourish and artistic visions come to life. Together, they celebrate the beauty of art and nature, inviting to connect with both the sculptures and their stories.

Janice Affleck
Pottery Artist

With a architectural background, Janice Affleck is the talented artist behind Glisk Ceramics. As a full-time member at Glasgow Ceramics since 2018, her work primarily focuses on the manipulation of Parian, a medium allows her to explore the intricate interplay of light, shadow, and reflection. Each piece is crafted by hand using techniques such as slip-casting and mould making, ensuring that every creation is truly unique. Janice's background in architecture has significantly influenced her artistic approach, enabling her to incorporate a distinct sense of structure and space into her work She is particularly fascinated by how ceramics can evoke emotions and tell stories, seamlessly bridging the tangible and the intangible. Janice invites you to join her on this artistic journey as she continues to push the boundaries of this exquisite medium.
Tom Allan
Stone Carver
Drawn to stone as his preferred material, he sources marble from Carrara in Italy and Maltese and Portland limestone from England. Since 1977 he is making sculptures, and doing it full time since 2001. From 1995 until 2020 he was working as a tenant at Glasgow Sculpture Studios, where he taught classes in stone sculpture. He now has his own workshop on the Mount Stuart estate on the Isle of Bute. The majority of sculptures are on a domestic scale, to be lived with in the home or outdoors in the garden. He has also done large-scale commissions, project-managing the whole process from quarry to installation. He organised an international exhibition of stone and marble sculpture, "Carrara to Glasgow" in 2004, and in 2006 and set up and organised the first regular International Stone Sculpture Symposium in Scotland.
Frances Clark
Ceramic Artist
This accomplished ceramic artist uses clay as her primary medium to investigate themes surrounding the human condition, and intrinsic connections to the landscapes.
Through her discovery that most of emotional responses are triggered by nature, prompting her to explore the concept of ancestral memory.
Her work primarily centers on figurative sculpture, delving into the relationships among individuals, communities, and the environment.
Sara Cunningham Bell
Multimedia Sculptor
Sara Cunningham Bell is an award-winning artist who designs her work out of a variety of materials. She operates out of a studio on the north coast of Ireland. Central to her work is the endeavour to interrupt the dualisms that divide up the living world, which form the realities we seek to inhabit.
Cunningham Bell's art tries to negotiate this quandary, in an effort to present the truth of beauty - a truth that cannot be dependent on the ugly.
Helen Denerley
Metal Sculpture Artist
Helen Denerley is an international artist based on a remote hillside in North East Scotland. Renowned for her striking scrap metal giraffes located on Leith Walk in Edinburgh, her creations have gained international recognition, with commissions in Japan and South Georgia, and are featured collections worldwide. Helen's artistry is a blend of meticulous observation, drawing skills and a profound love for the natural world, utilizing negative space to create dynamic forms that evoke life and movement.
Guy Elder
Woodworker
A past contributor to the Caol Ruadh Sculpture Park, Guy Elder works primarily in wood to create large and diverse sculpture.
Studying at the Glasgow School of Art, but having to pull out due to ill health Guy used wood carving as part of his recovery. His work was recognised, and public and private commissions and exhibitions continued for many years.
Moira Ferguson
Pottery Artist
Moira Ferguson brings over forty years of experience in teaching and pottery-making. Her engagement with the craft began in the 60s at Leicester Teacher Training College and has continued to thrive at her studio Holy Loch Pottery. As a keen researcher of the history of ceramics, she has traveled extensively to study traditional pottery techniques. Moira’s work is informed by her proficiency in hand-building methods, including slab work, and wheel-throwing, while her creative inspiration stems from the natural beauty of the lochs, glens, and carvings found in the Cowal landscape.

Vanessa Lawrence
Wire Artist
Vanessa Lawrence artistic journey began with years of painting till a passionate focus on three-dimensional forms became apparent. She finds inspiration in the tactile process of sculpting wildlife and human figures, where storytelling and the influence of surroundings play vital roles in her creations. Her sculptures have been commissioned for both private and large-scale public art projects. Although sculpture is her primary medium, two-dimensional work remains essential to her process. The interplay of light and shadow on her sculptures informs her drawings and paintings across various surfaces.
Louise McVey
Ceramic Artist
Louise McVey is a distinguished artist based in Glasgow, recognized for her expertise in sculptural ceramics, street art, and music. She completed her education at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design and Nova Scotia College of Art & Design in1999, earning a Bachelor of Design in Ceramics. Louise’s artistic endeavors represent a compelling fusion of creativity and craftsmanship, showcasing her ability to convey narratives through both her visual art and musical compositions. Her innovative approach and profound emotional expression engage and inspire audiences across various platforms.
Katie Low
Ceramic Artist
Katie Low is a new sculptor exhibiting at Caol Ruadh Sculpture Park this year. Katie is a ceramic artist based in Glasgow with over 25 years of experience working with clay. She draws inspiration from the natural world and the interconnection of all creation.
Low’s forms explore the themes of creation and the inherent spirituality of all beings. Using clay as her primary medium enables curiosity, exploration of shapes, forms, textures, colour, creating vessels that embody connection and narratives in a tactile form.
Illona Morrice
Ceramic Artist
Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, to artist parents. Illona Morrice opened her first studio/gallery, Billedmageriet, in the heart of Copenhagen after finishing college. Eventually relocating to England, now resides in Moray, Scotland, where she draws immense inspiration from the surrounding nature. The natural weathering of stones and rocks continuously captivates her. Her artwork has evolved into abstract forms, focusing on essential elements. Some pieces are created in bronze as limited editions, while others are crafted from stoneware, with each piece being uniquely hand-carved and hand-polished, ensuring no two are alike.
Pauline Muir
Ceramic Artist
Pauline Muir studied at the Glasgow School of Art as a mature student, where her passion for ceramics flourished. After earning her Bachelor of Arts with Honours in 1993, she spent several years working independently on various commissioned site-specific projects alongside architects and planners. During this time, she developed strong partnerships with a brick manufacturer and a concrete plant, which provided her with workspace, materials, and invaluable technical expertise.
Karen Westerbeek
Ceramic Artist
Westerbeek opened Caol Ruadh Sculpture Park in 2012, and took up sculpture herself some years later with the help of longtime contributor and friend Bill Williamson.
Primarily working in clay, she draws inspiration from the natural world and the human form to make intriguing, often segmented clay pieces.
Bill Williamson
Ceramic Artist
Bill Williamson is a longtime friend of the Sculpture Park and is an experienced sculptor, having worked in the medium for over 40 years.
Expressing his thoughts and feelings through his wheel-thrown vessels and sculptural art pieces, Bill Williamson creates original artworks which express his ideas and thoughts about the world and its political systems.
